Well at this point you may have talked to me to find out i made it home alive. It turns put that I managed to catch some stomach bug on my last day, which I have only just gotten over. Not sure what they call that down there, Atahualpa's revenge?
Well, decidedly it was the fish empanadas that did me it. I had some fish at a fancy Peruvian restaurant that day as well, but it was already too late. Too much sea food and I hadn't been quite broken in enough. It definitely made for an interesting 30h trip home...
It was sad indeed to leave Antofagasta and all my new conference buddies. Luckily, most of them live in Canada, and it's a small world, I'm sure I'll see some of them at the next conference (SEG2012 Lima!). The conference wound down right on schedule. I didn't know any of the award winners, I think I may have seen one of their talks. After that I was on my way to the Peruvian restaurant...
So, what's in the cards for the future? Well, I'll have to follow up on the dozen or so contacts regarding jobs, maybe a PhD? Additionally, I have already been in contact with somebody from the conference, although it isn't quite clear what she wants or is offering. It sounds like she needs my expertise in the REE, and is offering her own in her discipline in return (I don't know that I have much use for that!). Hopefully it will lead to work, we'll see. For now I am in Montreal, writing my thesis, trying to get everything on paper for new draft of my manuscript.
Speaking of which, it sounds like some of the data I intended to collect won't be available until at earliest the end of the month. So it will be a mid November return to Vancouver for me at the earliest. We'll see!
All the best, thanks for reading!
